Everybody deserves to have at least one person in their life who is totally, completely, wonderfully in love with them. Someone who realizes how magnificently awesome they are…. Someone who understands their unique beauty and one-of-a-kind personality….Yes, someone whose heart thrills at the sight of them and whose eyes light up and say “OH. WOW! YOU ARE SO AMAZING!”
I call it, understandably, the “OH WOW attitude.” Babies need to have this attitude expressed to them many, many times in order for them to pick up the message that they are wonderful, worthwhile human beings. With repetition, they will begin to make it a part of themselves.
How does this apply to me as an adult?
It has been found that humans need to hear 3 times more positive things to balance out each negative they perceive. and the omission of a positive is felt as a negative. Contrary to popular belief, it is not possible to overdo it in this department.
When you express an OH WOW attitude to your baby or child, you are investing in their self-esteem, an essential building block for their future happiness. When you express an OH WOW attitude to yourself, you are investing in your own self-esteem and your own overall health. It is better than money in the bank! So don’t be afraid to let it show.

Look into a mirror at your face and look yourself right in the eye and pretend that you are looking onto the eyes of the one you love the most. Pretend that the person you are looking at “through the mirror” is your soul mate, your perfect love. Then, out loud, say, “Oh, wow!”
The ancient Sufi writer, Rumi, knew of the power of this exercise when he penned his poetry over 7 centuries ago. He wrote about himself (and me):
“You come to us from another world – from beyond the stars and the void of space. Pure. Of unimaginable beauty. You are the essence of love. You transform all who are touched by you. Mundane concerns, troubles, and sorrows dissolve in your presence bringing joy to ruler and ruled. You bewilder us with your grace. All evils transform into goodness. You are the master alchemist. Light the fire of love in earth and sky, in heart and soul of every being. Through your loving, existence and non-existence merge. All opposites unite. All that is profane becomes sacred again.”
