It seems coffee is better for you when sweetener is added to it than when it is ingested “black”. Further, ingesting something sweet is not as effective as when ingested with coffee. In other words, coffee and sweet roll is better for your brain than coffee or roll alone. Of course, for that perfect combo, consider coffee and sweetener (maybe with cream – my favorite).
“Our main finding is that the combination of the two substances [caffeine and glucose] improves cognitive performance in terms of sustained attention and working memory by increasing the efficiency of the areas of the brain responsible for these two functions”, explains Josep M. Serra Grabulosa. This supports the idea of a synergistic effect between two substances, in which each one boosts the effect of the other.
I just KNEW my morning coffee with sweetener and creamer was doing more than simply tasting good. The study of caffeine and glucose together vs apart or not at all, makes me wonder what other substances work better together in the human body to make the body work more efficiently.
